App is looking for old version of runtime engine

I have an app that came with a datalogger that was (presumably) written in Labview 7.X. Whe it runs, it wants me to point it to lvruntimeeng 7.1.1.

I have LV 8.2 already on the machine, and I can't find the file it's looking for.

I really need to use this datalogger.

Any ideas?

Download and install the 7.1.1 runtime engine. It can coexist.

You know, I thought that would work and tried it first. When I tried to install the 7.1.1 runtime engine it errored out, saying I had a newer version installed already. But the app wants to see this particular version. Arrrrrgh.

I had the same problem before.  The installs often corrupt each other with 7.1 runtime engines.  Check this out:

While I have never encountered the problem, there is anectotal evidence from postings here that under some conditions (?) you get this error unless you install runtime engines in chronological order or similar.

Maybe NI has a solution.

That would certainly be nice if NI had a solution. Apparently they don't monitor this stuff...

Did you check the KB link I gave you above?  It sounds like the same problem I dealt with and it's an easy fix.

From what I can tell, the KB article is about "Executable Version (7.1.1) Doesn't Match Resource File (7.1) Check Your Configuration", while this thread is about the inability to install the 7.1.1 runtime if 8.2 is already installed on the same machine.

I don't think the KB applies in this case. Did you post the wrong link?

The application I'm trying to run is looking for lvruntimeeng.msi, and all I can seem to find in the support section is the .exe version. Until this app sees what it wants it won't be happy.

Hi Everyone,

You cannot install an older version of the Run-Time Engine once you have a newer one installed. The way around this is to uninstall the versions of the RTE newer than the one you are trying to install, install the oldest one and then the newer ones in oder. You can determine which versions you have installed by going to the Control Panel >> Add/Remove Programs >> National Instruments Software and find then in that list.

On another note, the KB linked above does not relate to this issue.
