Remember also that these meters only have a limited buffer size.  You will need to determine how you wish to handle that without overflowing the buffer.

 

You may need to flush/clear the buffer each time you take an average and possibly holding onto that average for several iterations.  Thereby taking an average of averages in order to create a rolling average.

Thanks for the tip.  I hadn't read up on buffer.  I just assumed it was like the Hp3478a buffer that overwrote everything on every trigger event.  Worth looking into!

Thanks guys for the help, this is the solution I eventually settled on. 

Using the level triggering main.vi
