9265 as Valve Control

I am using a cRIO 9074 with a 9265 0-20mA module. I am trying to control a valve actuator ARA639 and the specs can be found here (http://www.esbe.eu/global/en/products/rotary-actuators/ara600-proportional). There are a few versions of the 600 class actuator on the website and I want to be clear that I am using the 639 which draws 6VA DC and I have it hooked up to a 24V 0.5A DC power supply.

I have the 9265 hooked up to an external 9V 0.6A power supply and it works just fine when I have it hooked up to a DMM.

My issues is that, when I hook up the 6265 to the actuator (ARA639 from link above), the 9265 can only output currents between 0-8mA (rather than 0-20mA).

The actuator needs a 4-20mA signal to work, so this 0.2 mA is very disappointing. Moreover, the actuator does not respond to the 0-8mA signal at all.

Any help here would be great!!!

Hi rich,

the specs for the NI9265 state a minimum load of 600Ohms and a maximum driving voltage of 12V for the current signals.

You can test the NI9265 easily: hook up a DMM with the current outputs and measure the current driven by the NI9265!

When your NI9265 is not broken you should get the readings as expected.

Now test your valve actuator: which burden does it provide? Can you drive the valve using a simple power supply and some resistors to provide a current signal? Did you select the correct input signal type - the valve supports several signal types/ranges!

Best regards,
GerdW
