1/x octave binning

Anyone know of any public domain LabView VIs that do FFT >> 1/x octave
bining? I know of the NI sound toolkit, but my company won't spring for the
cost at this time.
I have written a LV 1/3 octave binner but it is kinda slow (not a LV guru,
that's for sure!) and gives strange outputs periodically.
Looking for better examples and I am NOT concerned with filter shapes, etc.
just need simple bining.
thanks

Let me know if you find a VI to do the 1/3 Oct bins.
I like to do the same thing! Thanks

I think I have a VI that is working. It only took 3 days of mind bending programming. Here is a demo program with the VI to do the 1/3 Octave banding. See if this works for you and let me know what you think..

Hi there, I'm in the same boat as you guys. I want to do fractional octave analysis but don't have the "Sound and Vibration Toolkit". Anyways, I downloaded the demo you provided, but I get a missing sub vi error when I open demo1. Any ideas, thoughts or is it just not complete?

Thanks

Hi,

Thank you, Edward, for this piece of code.  There aren’t any other open source octave analysis VIs that I am aware of.  But if there are any other members of the community that have access to or created other sound and vibration VIs, I would encourage them to post to this forum.

KennyWRX – I did not have any problems opening up Edward’s VI.  Could you go into more detail about which specific VIs are missing.  Also, what version and package (i.e., base, full, etc.) of LabVIEW did you purchase?

I'm using the evaluation version of LabVIEW 8.0. Every VI opens fine except "Demo1.vi"... apparently I have a missing SubVI and its name is supposedly "More Information.vi".

Maybe it's time to upgrade to the newer LabVIEW 8.2.1

Thanks.

Hi,

I tried the Demo VI, and I get that same warning about missing a subVI.  This VI does not exist within LabVIEW 8.2 (although I would still strongly recommend upgrading), so KennyWRX would have to post again.

KennyWRX,

I think he was referring to Edward's post from 2004 and picked up your name without noticing that you had not posted the earlier VI.
