Why the Different Current Limit behavior options between IVI and niDCPower drivers?

Solved!
Go to solution

The IVI driver for the modular power supplies, e.g., 4110 etc. exposes two options when setting the supply current limit: "Regulate" and "Trip". The equivalent niDCPower  VI only exposes "Regulate".

Anyone have a reason for this?

Hello,

I believe, the IVI Foundation provides the features and options for each configuration method to be uniform across instruments from all vendors that support IVI.

Though you've trip and regulate current limit modes, the actual behavior is going to be based on the hardware support. IVI driver would have supported both since the other vendor's instrument might support the "Trip" mode.

NI has exposed only the "Regulate" mode because they know that their instruments support only that mode.
