Using PCI and Enet GPIB Drivers Together

Solved!
Go to solution

We need to use a PCI and Enet GPIB controller at the same time under Solaris 9.

Is it still the case that there is no unified driver for the PCI GPIB card and the Ethernet GPIB controller for Solaris (Solaris 9), as indicated in your forum post from April 2004 (pfrogers and JoshuaP)?

If there is no unified driver, is it possible to install both drivers into different directories, and then compile a program that will access both devices by carefully having it use different C header files and libraries, depending on which controller to access?  It seems to me, the answer will still be no, because your GPIB API function calls will have the same names between the two controllers, so there would be no way to specify which function (PCI or Enet version) to call.

Thank you.

Hi,

Thank you for your post.  Yes, it is still the case that there is no unified driver for the PCI-GPIB card and GPIB/ENET controller for Solaris 9.  You are also correct in your assumption that you will be unable to compile a program that will allow you to access both drivers in different directories.  I apologize for the inconvinience that this may cause you.

Have a great day!
