Using ENET/100 with router??

I can't seem to get my ENET/100 working correctly with my US ROBOTICS router. I connect my XP to a US ROBOTICS 7905 5-Port Switch, then to a US ROBOTICS 8001 router. The ENET/100 is then connected to the router. I can communicate all the way to the router but not to the ENET/100. I have a solid light on the pwr and Green on the mips...indicating something is happening. I even occasionally have a Rx blinking light. But I can't seem to get the address connected correctly. The hostname I use is NIENET (that is all there is on the label....no numbers with it). I have searched these archives, but nothing I have found has helped so far.

Anybody ever have any experience using routers and the ENET/100 in this manner? Are there any tricks to communicating this way or for manually configuring the ENET/100 so I can talk to it? I have no other address for the ENET/100 except its MAC address...if that helps. I have tried all the configuration tips I can find. I have even called N.I. and they so far they can't seem to help either. I have tried everything they have suggested and still I am at a brick wall. Even called US ROBOTICS and no help.

488.2 Troubleshooting wizard also appears to be no help. I am obviously overlooking something. I can't believe that I am the only person on planet earth that has run into this problem!! HELP!!!

UFO,

Have you been able to establish communication (and set the IP addess) when the ENET is not on the router?

If you can set the IP address to a known value (make sure its static), you could then connect it to your router and try to ping it using the ip address and then add it to your system if that is successful.

How are you currently trying to communicate with it?  Are you just typing the name of the router?  Also, does your network currently have a dns?

Finally got it solved now. I finally wised up and clicked on manually set the IP address and bingo....some wierd numbers came up....so I decided to try them out. Lo and behold, that was the key. I guess it had its own IP address stored inside and using that in lieu of the automatic detection was the key. I am now a happy camper and can talk to the GPIB inst associated with the enet/100. Now I am researching iblock and ibunlock to ensure that other computer systems do not interfere with what I am doing. Bottom line is that I have 4 computers all trying to access the enet/100 at the same time. First come, first served.
