This begins to make some sense!  As I mentioned earlier the PRS series has two distinct versions of the GPIB interface.  Only one of them is a Talker.  Also both versions have a distinct limitation- there is a local/remote front panel switch that must be set to "remote" for the GPIB to listen at all.

Make sure your not in the diet mode (i.e. LO-Cal) and take a look at the boilerplate on the rear.  What is the EXACT model of the unit?

I have Model 2PRS-201-2IEE-2RO-2D

Though I have the dial set to remote, the local LED is the one currently lit up.

As I'm reading more into this, I see that the LOCAL indicator will remain on until communication with the unit is initialized.  Unfortunately, my initialize VI still returns errors.

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but is there no way to set the resistance remotely then?

I can change the resistance remotely through the string control on the front panel of the SCPI Command and Response.vi.

So, I think I can figure this out from here.  Thanks for the help
