Scan for instruments failed in MAX;

Hi,

I simply want to configure a multimeter for an LabView application, but the scan for instrument in MAX is always unsuccessful. The GPIB-card has been recognized. I have switched the Adress of the multimeter to the same Adress.  Remote modus is also on.

Can anyone give me an advice, how to check if every setting is correct or what else have to be configured.

The Card is a PCI-GPIB 183617G-01+

The multimeter is a B+K Precision 5492

The System is XP

I would appreciate every advice, because I´m not a professional in LabView but I want to learn it.

kind regards

Toni

What exactly do you mean by 'switched the Adress of the multimeter to the same Adress'. You didn't set the address of the meter to the same address as the controller, did you? That would be wrong. I'm also confused by your 'remote modbus' comment. Modbus is a completely different protocol (and connector type) than GPIB.

The (selectable) primary adress of the GPIB-card in MAX is 0. I thought that the the GPIB-Adress of the meter has te be the same. I´ve selected GPIB as interface parameter and changed the adress of the meter. what else have to be configered to enable a communication..?

That should be all. Does the scan for instruments return nothing or do you get a message that the instrument does not respond to the *IDN? query? If it's the latter, check to see if the instrument supports the command and if it doesn't, ignore the message. If no instrument at all is detected, try using a different GPIB cable and if you have a different GPIB instrument available, try connecting only that one and see if it can be detected.

I just got the message, that no device can be found. I´ll check the cable and change the device.

Thank you Dennis.

Hi

the multimeter should have a different address as the gpib card, in fact each instrument should have its own address.

greetings from the Netherlands
