MXI-4 problem

I am using PXIPCI-8336 with optical link.
Does it always need to power on my PXI chassis first and then the PC to boot
to have my PXI modules to be identified?

Is it safe to turn off the Chassis after acquisition while PC is still doing some acquistion with other modules
(through GPIB and or with a serial link)

Hi Naushica,

If your PXI rack is connected with a MXI link (optical or electric) you have to power up the PXI rack before you switch on the PC.

The PXI rack is an extension on your PCI bus so the bios must 'see' the PXI modules before your PC is booting.

You can switch of the PXI rack while PC is still running without a problem. Everything linked to the PXI rack has to be closed to avoid errors.

Switching on the PXI rack again doesn't bring it online again. You have to reboot you PC in that case.
