I can't find the NI Device Loader in the Service menu

Solved!
Go to solution

I am trying to detect intruments in NI-MAX, one connected by USB-DAQ and one connected by USB-Serial. Despite the USB-DAQ appearing in the Device Manager, it is not in NI-MAX. And while I can see the USB-Serial COM port, I can't communicate with the instrument. The help resource suggested that I make sure that the NI mDNS Responder Service and NI Device Loader were running. I found NImDNSRS running in the Services menu, but the NI Device Loader was no were to be found. I have found advice on how to turn it on, but I don't know what I need to install so that it is available.

It looks like you have not installed NI Device Drivers since The GPIB Enumerator service and a few others are missing too.  You can download the file from Here and Here

NOTE: the drivers finally got too large for one DVD and both are needed for a full install (part of why it ships on USB3.0 sticks now)

Thanks so much! I thought that I had installed the necessary instrument drivers, but apparently I had less than a quarter of them. I am now able to communicate with my instrument.

I'm having the same problem.

I'm upgrading a bunch of systems from Dev Suite 2012 to 2014.  NI Device Loader is not showing up in Windows Services for 2 machines; a laptop running WIN XP Pro 2022 SP3 and a desktop running Win 7 Ultimate.  The other systems are running Win 7 Pro.  I've uninstalled MAX as suggested by http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/D1F1D3FC80E4FFDF86256B410059DE31 and reinstalled the drivers.  No change.

Currently the laptop has no hardware connected to it so the missing devices and remote systems are from a previous configuration.  But it still bothers me that NI Device Loader doesn't exist.

I've enclosed a PPT document showing particulars about the problem desktop.

Any suggestions?

Hi faustina,

Have you run Part 1 and Part 2 of the NI Device Drivers that Jeff posted? Also, since this is an older thread, it would be a good idea to repost your question in a new thread to get more responses from the community.
