How to control a parallel port using VISA

I was asking about the device enabled box in max. It is not checked there.

yes. I changed that. but the error was the same. Is there any specific configuration for parallel port?

The only place that I know of is in device manager and in the bios. I don't have access to a win7 pc with a parallel port at this time so I can't check to see how it should appear.

Yes, you definitely want the "enable" box checked.

Thanks for the reply.

I changed ECP printer port to printer port in bios. I do not see SPP(standard parallel port) in my computer. I guess printer port and SPP are the same.

But i have the same problem. Are there any other solutions? I checked other two links also

Let's try these BIOS settings:

This KB refers to a different problem, but may help us in setting up the BIOS.

LabVIEW

Parallel Port Does Not Appear in Measurement & Automation Explorer

http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/31DC65938A666A9A86256F56005B2624?OpenDocument

It seems like connecting to the parallel port is much more difficult since Windows XP. For WinXP, we have LabVIEW examples that access the port directly (In Port and Out Port). One workaround would be using an XP machine.

Third Party

There is also is a third party driver developed for Vista that may also work on Windows 7:

It's discussed on this forum: http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php?643913-RESOLVED-Writing-to-parallel-port-Windows-7-64-bit

Here is the actual Driver page:

http://www.highrez.co.uk/downloads/inpout32/default.htm

If we could get this driver to work, we could use a Call Library Function Node to call the driver in LabVIEW.
