How can I prevent comunication errors using my GPIB-USB-HS?

Im using a set of motion control stages with GPIB interface. Using the USB-GPIB-HS adapter, I tend to get communication errors from my controller every few minutes. This adapter is the only present USB device on a Windows XP SP2 machine, and the stage controller is the only connected GPIB device. I use the same setup on a different computer with a PCI GPIB card, and I have yet to get a single communication error. Are there any workarounds for this unstable communication behavior?

A common cause of communication errors that you'd see with the GPIB-USB-HS (and not with the PCI-GPIB, with the same code) is the USB port is not providing enough power to the bus. If you try another USB slot or hub, do you see a difference? Do you see the same errors on another computer with the same USB-GPIB-HS?
