Getting started with Labview and Modbus

I really need some basic pointers here, to get me off in the right direction what I'd like to know is:

1. I want read a pressure transducer that uses modbus on a serial port connection, what are the basic components of the VI?

2. How is the modbus protocol implemented, is it a code transmtted from labview or is it something else?

3. Are there any good resources that will help me?

Sorry if this is in the wrong place or makes no sense. I am completely new to this area.

NI's free Modbus library for LabVIEW will made this task easy. An alternate and expensive (!) solution is to use NI's Datalogging and Supervisory Control Module.
