GPIB doesn't appear in MAX but hw configured (pxi-8156)

hi,
i have a PXI-8156 PXI on PXI-1000 chassis, and i try to run GPIB.

In the "NI488-2 getting started wizard" i passed the
hardware and software verify.

But in the max explorer, in don't see any GPIB device in "devices and interface". i dont see any PXI 1000 or PXI-8156 too.

what is my problem ?

Hello-

The PXI-8156 has an AT-GPIB/TNT card built into the controller. It's resources are:
I/O Address: 2C0-2DF
DMA: none
Interrupt Request (IRQ): 11

ni.com/manuals has a Getting Started Manual for this board in supported operating systems.

The PXI-8156 and PXI-1000 are a controller and chassis. It should not show up in Devices and Interfaces.

I have exactly the same hardware configuration and exactly the same problem, just that the GPIB interface used to be very much present in MAX under the Devices and Interfaces tab until not so long ago (I cannot tell how long ago as I don't check it daily).

I can see it in the system's Device Manager, and I can see it in VISA Interactive Control, and it works all right, just it doesn't show up in MAX.

Any reason for that?

I recently purchased a AT-GPIB/TNT  I downloaded the driver 1.7 for windows 2000. I loaded the driver under labview 8.0.

Here is the problem: The driver install and application load fine however the driver does not show up in MAX no 488.2 listed

further more Windows hardware manager does not show the GPIB board installed. However I see the driver in windows new

software added.

I do not know what is going on. I uninstalled the 488.2   2.X driver that came with Labview 8.0.

I set the IRQ TO 5 ,  card I/O address 2C0,

I see the same issue with PCI-GPIB card.  Everything works as it should, expect it does not show in MAX.

I'm using version 3.1.1 of MAX.   I know there is a version 4.0.0.3010, maybe that one might solve the problem.

Hi Determined,

Is your AT-GPIB/TNT a plug and play (PnP) board or is it non-PnP?

Hi rfengr_1,

The latest version of NI-488.2 (the driver for the PCI-GPIB) is 2.4 for Windows 2000/XP. Here is a link to the latest versions of the driver for different operating systems.

If upgrading the driver does not resolve this issue, please feel free to create a new forum thread so that we can work on this issue.

I have a similar problem however the card is installed in a ISA BUS thus : ( AT/GPIB-TNT)

the driver is listed in new programs  however not MAX or HARDWARE MANAGER.

does anyone have a solution? I downloaded driver 1.7 and installed it in a Windows 2000 OS.

I did install version 2.4 of the NI488.2.  Funny thing it installs version 3.1.1 of MAX.

If you've installed Labview 8.0, the MAX has upgraded to 4.0.0.  I reinstalled LabView 8.0, which reinstalled MAX v4.0.0 and violia it works as it should.

I am surprised that NI does not provide an update for MAX or even if you select search for updates from within MAX 3.1.1.

Did you try my suggestion? What was the outcome? Do you have a plug-and-play (PnP) or a non-PnP AT-GPIB/TNT?
