GPIB-USB-HS - This device cannot start. (Code 10) -

Hello, I'm having a problem with a GPIB-USB-HS. The device can no longer communicate with other lab equipment. 

 

The unit appears in "Devices and Interfaces" in "Measurement and Automation Explorer". However I receive the message "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" when looking at the properties in device manager.


I have installed the most recent version of NI-488.2 (version 17)

 

This unit was working properly for about 2 years. 

 

Has anyone else experienced a similar problem?

Usually that happens when you connect to a device that is not at the same ground potential and damage the unit.

Both the computer and the device the GPIB-USB-HS was connected to were plugged into the same power strip.

 

How much does it cost to have this repaired or is that $800 down the drain?

Hi NateZech,

 

Before we conclude that the device has been damaged, there's a lot of troubleshooting we can do:

 

  • Can you lay out a sequence of events for us? When did the device stop working? Was there any kind of traumatic event to the device?
  • Did you just recently update the 488.2 driver, or any other software on your PC?
    • If so, have you tried reverting to your older version where the device worked, or force reinstalling the driver/other software?
  • Have you tried the device on a different PC?
  • Do you have another GPIB-USB-HS that's currently working on this same PC?
  • Have you tried different USB ports on the PC? 2.0 and 3.0? In the front and back of the PC tower?
    • If you're using a USB hub, have you tried connecting straight into the computer?
  • Can you post screenshots of how the device appears in Windows Device Manager, in MAX, and of the error message?

Dear Nick, all

 

I am having a similar problem....I can see my GPIB-USB-HS device in my NI max but in my computer control panel I get a code 10.

 

The LEDs on my device initially light up but then don't, and previously I used this device to successfully communicate with various instruments, but after switching from Windows 11 to 10, it hasn't worked.

 

Of course we have gone back to Windows 11 but the problem persists. See attached pictures.

 

I have downloaded the 488.2 drivers etc but no success.

 

It was working fine before. Please help!
