Can I use my GPIB-USB-B device under Linux with C++ programs?

Unfortunately, you cannot use your GPIB-USB-B device under Linux. You have a couple of options here. First, you can use the driver developer's kit DDK to make your own drivers for this platform. Second, you can contact NI sales to upgrade from USB to ENET, for GPIB-ENET can be run under Linux. If you'd like to upgrade to ENET, please call #(800)531-5066 to speak to a sales representative."

I contacted the maintainer of http://linux-gpib.sf.net for support for the USB device and he (Frank Hess, fmhess@students.uiuc.edu) replied:

"It's not supported, since I'm not aware of any NI documentation on how to program the device's gpib chip over usb."

Can you provide him with such information or a link to it? Tank you!

It is not readily apparent to me how the the DDK can be used to write a linux driver for the USB-GPIB-B. I looked that the DDK download page and am unsure what to download. Can you provide a little more detail?

Thanks for the reply ... however I think you missed my point ... I found the DDK download page.
This page [broken link removed] list various MH DDK downloads ... do they all apply to the USB-GPIB-B ... do some? None of the downloads specifically mention USB-GPIB. Am I looking at the wrong download page?

I have never dealt with the DDK download directly for the GPIB-USB-B, so I discussed your situation with our R&D team. The result is some bad news.

Unfortunately, there is no DDK that supports GPIB-USB. The best you would be able to do is to create your own drivers at the registry level, which I do not recommend for the sake of time and complexity.

I am sorry that I led you on a tangent, for I thought that GPIB-USB was supported with the DDK. In any case, your issue has been addressed internally to the correct developers, so I will notify you of future updates to the DDK.
