Error using VISA library while trying to remote program spectrum analyser

Hi All,

I have remotely connected a spectrum analyzer to a PC using ethernet. I have installed NI VISA 4.2 on the instrument and PC for remote programming the instrument. But a VISA error "0xBFFF00A7 (VI_ERROR_MACHINE_NAVAIL)" is being returned. I have verified all the possible causes of error but without much help.
Pls revert back if there are any clarifications to be given.

Thanks Tejesh

The explanation of that error is "The remote machine does not exist or is not accepting any connections.". Did you add the instrument in MAX and verifyt that you can connect there? Is the instrument VXI-11 compliant and what type VISA session are you using (INSTR or SOCKET)? Can you ping the instrument from the pc?

Thanks for the suggestion Dennis.

I had not added the instrument under the devices list. I was under the impression that VISA would detect the device automatically. Now after adding i could see type and name of instrument in the list.

I have one more request. Do you have any example VC/VC++ code for reading average power value of sideband signal from the instrument. (I am using a Rohde and Schwarze FSL spectrum analyzer). I know the SCPI commands are instrument dependant. I need to know only the flow.(Initialization of instrument...)

Thanks and regards,

Tejesh

I don't have any code but Rhode & Schwarz has a driver for C++ here.
