Error code107387339

I am trying to make interface for a 5210 Lock-In Amplifier. I should send ID what should cause the loch-in amplifier to respond with the number 5210. But when I sent it, the device didn't respond and appeared error code 107387339. I tried to send *IDN? but I received the same error code. I  did a loopback test and it worked just fine.

What should I do?

You probably need to append a termination character to the end of the command. This is often a CR, LF, or both. You can right click on the string constant and select '\' Code Display and then enter \r for a carriage return or \n for a line feed. You can also use the constants on the string palette with the concantanate string function. The shipping example called Basic Serial Write and Read uses the '\' option in it's example. The Advanced Serial Write and Read shows how to use a VISA property node to set a termination character for all writes. Also, is this the instrument that a driver is avaible here?

This seems to be on the serial line
probably you need to add a crlf tothe ID or *IDN? question

you can do that by concatenating the string with a cr/lf constant
conat and the constant are both in the string palette

i tried all possible combinations: *?ID\n, *?ID\r,*ID?\n, *ID?\r

nothing helps, any other ideas? i looked up in the manual, the instrument shouldnt need any specific line termination

You seem to be guessing at the command as well. What does the manual say? With a serial instrument, I always recomend that you first try communicating with Hyperterminal. If you can't get that to work, you might have the wrong port settings or the wrong type of cable. You are also more likely to get help from the vendor if you mention Hyperterminal. A lot do not understand (or even know about) LabVIEW.

Also, is it the EG&G instrument? If it is, download the driver I mentioned.

Hi

Every instrument does not understand the GPIB keyword *IDN?. In this case (For 5210) you have to write ID. Do not worry about the terminators as they are appended automatically like the delimiters. Hope this would help. Infact it is there in teh user manual.
