Connect to individual Ethernet Ports

Hi All,

I want to connect an Ethernet Hub to a PC and use Labview to read/write from/to specific ports on the hub. Is this possible and how would I go about doing it?

You don't write to a port. You write to a device that is plugged into the hub and each one needs to have a unique IP. So, specify the correct IP and you are done. Since you don't mention what language you are using or what you are trying to connect to, it's hard to be more specific than that.

What I want to do is test an Ethernet/Optical converter for bit errors. The attached picture kind of shows the setup I would like. Unfortunately the converters do not have their own IP addresses.

As for language I'm using, haven't decided. Open to suggestions though.

Are these SFP connectors/converters? In any case, I would not use a hub. I would use a separate NIC for each. If, though, you need to test these at full speed, you will probably need an expensive hardware solution like a SmartBits from Spirent. If that's the case, then the converters would be connected to the hardware and not to the pc at all.

Ah!!! Brilliant. Thanks Dennis, you kind of answered the question there in a round about way. I was looking into this to replace a machine from Spirent. Looks like that won't be happening.
