Thanks so much for the help. I was able to setup a working communication with the device! I was not aware that in order to set the handshake more I physically had to cross several wires in the RS232 cable. (ex. cut cable, solder channel 2 to 3, 3 to 2, etc.)

Hello Mike,
I'm facing a similar problem trying to connect to the MKS 647C. The loopback test works but I keep getting a timeout error when I try to communicate with the device. Could you expand on the wires you changed for the cable or lead me to a resource where I can figure out the procedure? It'd be of great help!
