If the channel was damaged dues to excessive currents.  An external circuit could be used to limit the +/- 30 mA limit per channel. 

A zener/resistor combination circuit could be used to limit excessive currents.  While in most cases, this will protect the module, zeners with worst case leakages could add from 3 to 16 LSB of non-linear error on the 16 bit module.
