NI Vision Builder to DIAdem

Solved!
Go to solution

Hello NI-community,

I've builded a measurement system via NI Vision Builder. Now I can save the measured data (only!) into a *.csv or *.txt file.

I want to import the measured data into DIAdem automatically.

Is there a better way to do this? Is there any direct Interface between this 2 software systems?

Thanks in advance!

Hey Steffen,

which way do you use at the moment? You are asking for a better way to do that, but I don't know which way you are currently using.

Which point of the current solution bothers you? Which improvement should be done?

The is no build in, one-click solution for a direct interface between this two software systems.

Hi Stephan,

at the moment, the only way for me is, to add the measured data from Vision Builder to DIAdem by using the DataPlugin Wizard.

This way is useless, because I want to add the data automatically to my database (DIAdem).

Hey Steffen,

DIAdem doesn't provide a database by itself. If you load data with a DataPlugin into DIAdem, the data are added to the data portal, but this is not a database.

It is possible to load new data automatically into DIAdem, but you have to build a VBS script in DIAdem which search and loads new data into DIAdem.

Hi Steffen,

When you install DIAdem you also automatically install a separate program called "My DataFinder", which is both a data base and an indexing service.  Both DIAdem and "My DataFinder" use the same DataPlugins to load/index data files.  When you successfully complete a Text DataPlugin Wizard session, it creates and registers a DataPlugin as well as loading the data file into the Data Portal in DIAdem.  The idea is that thereafter both DIAdem and the DataFinder can use the DataPlugin you've created to load/index all similar data files.  In practice, though, the DataPlugin you get from the wizard is often not ideal for reuse with a variety of similar data files.

My initial inquiries indicate that the ASCII files you're already creating are the best conduit we have between Vision Builder and DIAdem.  The DIAdem marketing manager is now advocating for options in future versions of Vision Builder that could provide a superior connection.  For the time being, though, I think our best bet is to outfit you with robust DataPlugins that will both provide drag&drop loading in the DIAdem NAVIGATOR as well as automatic indexing to the DataFinder data base.

So, could you post a few of the ASCII files you've created with Vision Builder?  I'd be willing to create a DataPlugin or a set of DataPlugins that should give you the connectivity and data base functionality you're after with DIAdem.  Or you could email them to brad.turpin@ni.com
