Diadem application errors causing programme crash

We are running Diadem version 9.1 and are experiencing a large number of software crashes. Diadem has gone down 5 times today.

Typical error message is as follows:

The instruction at "0x77f7d3d1" referenced memory at "0x08c1baf5" The memory could not be read.

The first location seems common to all crashes the second changes each time.

The only option is to terminate as debug just results in it terminating anyway!

It occurs primarily in the report window. Any ideas as this is frustrating to put it midly!
Thanks

Hello marine boy,

this is looking uncommon.
Is the error occuring if you are using some special script or doing some special operations in the program or is it completely coincidentally? Are other applications crashing as well?

Inexplainable crashes quite often are based on corrupt memory. Maybe there is a problem with your RAM chips. There have been a lot of articles about that in computer magazines. Very likely DIAdem is using more of the RAM than all your other applications do thus accessing the corrupt bits - that could explain if DIAdem was the only application that is crashing.

You can try the newest DIAdem 9.1 Service Pack 2. Baybe it improves the satbility but if it is due to your hardware, what I assume, it is very likely that it does not make a big difference.

Mind that, it is a whole new installer - you need to deinstall previosly installed 9.1 versions before installing this one.

But try to replace the memory as well, or try the software on a different PC.
Hope this helps.

Hi Ingo,

Thanks for the reply.

I'm only conducting what are fairly basic operations in Diadem, I'm not using scripts. Only Diadem crashes, not other programmes. However Diadem is the only powerful software we use.

The computers our group use are all fairly old with only 128MB of RAM. This I suspect is the problem!

Do you have a recommended system specification for running 9.1?

Indeed, this seems to be the problem,
the system requirements can be found in the DIAdem help:

Hardware
CPU Intel Pentium- (II, III, IV), Athlon, AMD K6- oder AMD K7-Prozessor
RAM: at least 256 MB, recommended 512 MB
HD: at least 190 MB (during installation at least 450 MB)

OS:
Windows NT 4, Service Pack 6
Windows 2000, Service Pack 3
Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 1
