Counter input - Measure Pulse Width of Signals on USB-6009

I'm trying to measure pulse width or other signal properties (duty cycle etc.) on my USB-6009 with DAQExpress. The software tells me: "The desired channel is not supported for the current task configuration". I'm guessing this is because the 6009 doesn't support any other measurement except simple event counting. Is that correct?

I'm having a hard time finding which hardware would support it and how to find out. Any tips?

Hi,

Thank you for posting this question. I would like to check up on this post since no one in the community has gotten back to you yet. From what I can see in the spec sheet, the 6009 is not made for measuring pulse width. However, I found another forum post of ours that seems to programmatically calculate the duty cycle for a USB 6009 - you can find it here

If you are considering buying a new piece of hardware and want to confirm whether it can do what you want it to, please feel free to call the number under General Questions here and ask to speak to someone in our technical sales department for advice.

Hi Sara,

Thanks for responding. In the referenced thread, someone points out that the USB-62XX range has more advanced timer inputs. From the datasheet I read:

Counter measurements: Edge counting, pulse, semi-period, period, two-edge separation.
That sounds like what I need. However, is there any way to (parametrically) find out which devices support it (without going through all the datasheets and/or calling NI)?

Also, I'm only using DAQExpress (not LabView) so it seems I can't use the referenced VI's for software-based duty-cycle calculation (https://forums.ni.com/t5/Digital-I-O/calculate-duty-cycle-using-a-USB-6009-Data-acqusistion-unit/m-p...)

Warm regards from Holland,
Gregor
