PCI 6601 power supply

Hi:

I am building a CA-1000 with the PCI-6601 card "External Trigger" for Machine Vision Cameras.

I am going to use it with the StreamPix 3 software:(For recording to disk)

http://www.norpix.com/applications/triggering/trigger.php

Here is more info about this:

http://dr-3dcameraco.com/files/NORPIX_NI_6601.pdf

In all the info that I've read, I know that I need a 5v PS. But I dont find the power suplly in the NI website...where it is so I can buy it?

Thanks,
CR.

Hello CR,

Welcome to the NI forums!  I am a bit unclear as to what you might need the 5V power supply for. The PCI-6601 draws its power from the PCI bus, so it does not need any external power, and the CA-1000 should not need any external power either (it draws power from the PCI-6601).  I think it uses the 5V pin on the PCI-6601 connector for this power, but I am not sure about this.  Could you please point me to the documentation that shows you need an external supply?

As far as what NI sells, we provide third party power supplies with our devices that do need external power.  We do not, however, make the type of power supply you are talking about.  We do make a programable DC power supply (the PXI 4110), but I think that is beyond what you are looking for.

I hope this helps, if you show me where you saw you need a power supply, I'll take a look at it.

Neal:

Thanks for your reply.

For me it is not clear where the PCI-6601 draws its power when connected (inside?) the CA-1000 box....or this box where gets the power from.

Or its is perhaps that the PCI-6601 is NOT installed inside the CA-1000 box?

Thanks,
CR.

Hello again CR,

The CR 1000 is essentially a customizable breakout box (with signal conditioning) for our DAQ products.  It consists of the connector panels that you choose and the terminal block you install inside.  The PCI 6601 is installed in the computer you are trying to interface with.  You then cable the CR 1000 to your computer through the installed DAQ device (in our case the PCI 6601).

The PCI card pulls its power from the PCI bus of the computer and then powers the CR 1000 through the cable. No external power supply is needed.

I hope this clears things up, please post back if you have any more questions.

Oh my God!

I thought that the PCI-6601 was inside the CA-1000...

I just ordered the .25m long cable....I would have listen to the "NI recommended 1 mt."

Neal, these parts I have ordered so far (I already have the PCI-6601) to make an "external trigger system" for machiene vision cameras. (to be able to get exact frame rates).

Is there something else that I need?

Please see my first post for more info.

And thank you very much for your help, I am so new to this that is almost rocket science for me.

CR,

I would take a look at the CA 1000 installation guide to make sure that you have everything you need.  It appears that the only thing you are missing is a connector block.  From comparing the installation guide to the PCI 6601 product page, you have two options for this: The SCB 68 and the CB-69LPR.

With that and the cable length (which you already discovered), you should be good to go.  In the future, I would strongly recommend calling one of our sales representatives. They are very good at making sure you have everything you need (and only what you need).

Thanks Neal for your help.

I will wait for my order to get here, and see how everything looks like.

From there I will make another order...and pehaps a return? (.25m cable)

Next time, I will definitely do what you are suggesting.

Thanks again.

Cesar Rubio.

Neal:

I got the CB-69LRP and it wont fit in any way on the CA-1000 box!

Should I have to use my drill and make the holes in the right places to make it hold the CB-69LRP?

I hope not....

Thanks,
Cesar Rubio.
