who uses a windows switcher ?

Hi all,

As a lazy LabVIEW developper I'm always trying to find tips and tricks that can make my job more effortless... Smiley Wink

When developping/debugging big application I often have more than 10 VIs opened at the same time. I thought about asking my boss to get me a second screen, "too expensive" he said ; I don't agree with him... but HE is the one who decides when 2 people disagree Smiley Mad

I found on the web 3 softs (TopDesk, WinPLOSION and Entbloess) that "copy" Apple's Exposé on WinXP. They all cost less than $10 (a lot less than a second monitor !!)

So I'd like to know if any of you has ever tried one of these ??

Well, there's apparently an XP power toy which does this (with alt+tab) for free. Look at Ed's post here. Also, in the same thread was an initial version I posted of something along these lines for open LV windows using the icons. Since then I have improved it, but going over all the open VIs in a loop was too slow and I don't really use it so I will have to find the code. It would be possible to combine it with the diagram capture method (look at the starware thread) to get an image of the entire window.

Indeed, Ed's powertoy is nice and really improves the "alt+tab" and I've already adopt it 😉

But in my opininon it is still  far behind the "window switchers" since they have many different configurable options such as :

-"show only windows of the current top application" very cool when you have LabVIEW VI but also windows from other apps,
-"show only windows that are not reduced", also cool with LabVIEW,
and others depending on the soft...

I assume that any mac user will agree that Exposé is far better than "alt+tab" ; even with the powertoy.

Anyway... I owe you a beer for showing me the powertoy ! Smiley Very Happy

I too want a dual monitor system because I have used one in the past and found it invaluable for development work.  I've heard the same story about cost, so I went to Ebay and bought a monitor similar to the one I have now, 19" LCD panel, for $200, and I bought a video card that supports dual monitors for $15.  I am waiting for the monitor to arrive, should be today.  So for $215 I will have a dual monitor system.  For the increase in productivity, that is not too much to pay.  You can probably get other monitors for even cheaper.
