Misconceptions
Sometimes posts contain interesting misconceptions and generalizations that are probably not really true. This thread should serve as a collection for these statements as found in the forum here.

"I am mainly having trouble with your use of complex numbers which you mentioned are there to simplify coding. This is probably because I am not a computer scientist . (I am an undergrad. Physics major.)"

(My response further down: "Complex numbers have little to do with computers, but a lot to do with physics, so take this as an opportunity to learn. ") 🙂
Coworker: "So how long do you think it will take to finish up that MATLAB program?"
Me: "...I don't use MATLAB, I use LabVIEW"
Coworker: "Oh, are they not the same thing?"
I didn't know what kind of misconceptions you were intended for this thread to produce but this was the first that came to mind.
I remember taking a class in Finite Element Analysis where one of the first topics was to solve small problems by hand. As the class was being "reminded" how to invert a 2D matrix, one of my classmates remarked that he had forgotten all of his calculus. While I'm sure that was true, it did not belong in a discussion of linear algebra.
