It's 2011 already. I have my phone that they said everyone would be carying around. I can even take pictures and post stuff to the Internet with it. It is much more than I ever expected.

But there is something missing. I WANT MY FLYING CAR! Smiley Mad

Ooo! They're just down the street from me. I wonder if they are hiring?

Not looking forward to flying cars!! As a private pilot who is very conscious of navigating in a 3D world, and all too familiar with how crowded it feels anywhere near a population center, I'm not anxious to have folks that have trouble negotiating a well marked, well defined, 2D world, flying around, texting, putting makeup on, etc., up there!

And seeing how well many take care of their terrestrial vehicles (the check engine light has been on how long?!), I don't want the general populace up there with ill-maintained aircraft, ill-maintained auto-navigation/auto-pilots, etc. And with the FCC's idiotic approval (tentative at the moment) of a cellular system that will jam GPS ...

For quite a while now. It keeps telling me that I need to get my catalytic converter(s) changed even though nobody can find anything wrong with it (them), the car is running fine, its fuel efficiency has not changed, there's no smell, and it's passed state inspection now for 4 years. So I just clear it every once in a while (after verifying it's the same stupid codes).

So I think I'm a prime candidate for those thingamajiggies that flutter around in the wild blue yonder. Smiley Wink

Interesting thread.  Flying cars? it is the flying trucks I am worried about 😉

Especially the ones used to transport cattle.

Keep your convertible's hood up when passing underneath.

Interesting thread...  I never read it before..

Couldn't believe the statement of the (insert politically correct word for stupid) person who posted that comment.  Talk about the blind boasting about what he (doesn't) see.

One item left out of the discussion is the choice of processor architecture..  ARM vs RISC vs ...

I have some very old (antique) Sparc Ultra-10 that put to shame some of the new machines with dual-core 64 bit processors.  With 64-bit OS installed...  Of course "speed" is very relative since the poor processor depends on so many other much slower peripherals to accomplish its task...

My point is that you cannot make a general statement such as "this is faster than that".  There are so many influences..

Spoiler
heck... I just found out that using three multiply functions is faster than using a single Compound Arithmetic function!!  😮

For instance.  If I want to race a rocket which goes 1000 mph around a small 1 km  (ok... say 1/2 mile) oval course...   I'm on a bicycle going at ~30 - 35 mph...  who do you think is going to win?  In a straight line, the rocket wins, of course..

Reminds me of going through the NY State Barge canal in my sailboat (mast down, unopening bridges!) and going through a canal lock with a 40 foot "Cigarette" boat. It had the requisite "Bow Bunny" who was obviously contemptuous of my "blow boat" (max speed ~6 - 7 knots) and was really amused when I challenged her skipper to a race (his boat, ~50 - 60+ knots). He took it in the proper tone and asked, "Ok, where to?". Really laughed when I said "Plymouth, England".   I envisioned passing his boat about 30 miles offshore of NYC a few days later, as he bobbed around, out of fuel, as I sailed merrily on my way.
