Digital multimeter software not working.

Solved!
Go to solution

Why is the digital multimeter (DMM) software not working though the NI ELVISmx Instrument Launcher is?

I initially installed the NI myDAQ suite 2015 which included the NI ELVISmx Instrument Launcher containing the DMM software. Other pieces of the software work however, the DMM stalls immediately after starting with a NI Instruments loading bar.

I have tried the repair software option specifically for the NI ELVISmx driver and also tried wiping it clean and reinstalling fresh. Still recieving the same outcome.

Hi Trey0249,

This is Henry from National Instruments Applications Engineering. When trying to open the DMM software are you getting any errors or is it basically just freezing up and becoming unresponsive?ter succes Also does the software install on your compufully with no errors?

It simply "freezes" up. It opens a loading bar and stalls. Yes it did install successfully.

All except four of these options will open. I am interested in the Digital Multimeter and it will not open.

This is all I get out of the Digital Multimeter.

This shows that at least one of the software options will open. But what I also find significant is that the MyDAQ seems to be registering because it is in the pull down menu of Select Device.

Hi Trey0249,

Thanks for providing those screenshots. Here are a couple things to try:

1. If you are attempting to access this functionality in a Windows guest account then that will cause this to happen. Refer to the following article explaining this, http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/F23ABA1C98F139E18625775E006845FE

2. You can try opening the DMM Soft front panel directly from your start menu by searching for it and opening it without using the Elvismx interface. This will also sometimes help as a good workaround.

hfar2,

Unfortunately these options didn't work. I am not on a guest account however, I tried to follow the link anyways to read about it and I seen the following;

Error

HTTP Web Server: Lotus Notes Exception - Entry not found in index

Option number 2. I tried to open from the start menu, then took it one step farther and tried to open it from the icon in the program files on the hard drive.

Still no luck... 😞     Any other ideas? Any more information I can provide to help? Or could I try an older version with my NI serial number?

What hardware drivers do you have installed on your system? You should be able to look these up in NI MAX under the software tab.

It looks like you have everything you need. Does your myDAQ work on another computer with the software installed? Also are you installing your drivers from the disk provided or ni.com? Has the DMM on this device ever worked on your computer in the past?

The myDAQ does work at school, though their version of Multisim and LabView is from 2013. I installed the drivers from a provided disk and this is the first time using this software and computer so, no it has never worked in the past. I also just upgraded from Windows 7 to 10, however it had no effect on this situation. By the way, thanks for trying to help.
