Hello,
I just received my new Robotics Starter Kit and have been trying to get it up and running for the last few hours. Unfortunately, I seem to have reached an impasse with the initial setup.
After unboxing, I followed all of the appropriate hardware setup steps such as charging the battery, attaching the sensor array, connecting the power cable (after charging), setting the motor and master power switches appropriately, and connecting the robot to my router via ethernet. All of this went off without a hitch. Then, I initiated the setup wizard.
In "Step 3," it successfully detected the sbRIO on the network, so I selected it as the deployment target. The wizard then moved to "Step 4" and remained on it for a few minutes while deploying the software. Ultimately, though, it jumps to "Step 5: Test" and announces the detection of an unhandled error. This is the message I received.
As instructed, I pressed the reset button on the sbRIO, waited a bit, and attempted to the deployment of again. Just as it did the previous time, the deployment proceeded quietly for a couple moments before the wizard encountered the same error (same error code, same call chain).
Does anyone have any ideas what the problem might be? Has anyone encountered this before? I know it says I should contact NI for support if the problem continues, but apparently the Robotics Starter Kit is one of the few packages that doesn't include a year of SSP membership, so that isn't really an option.

My first guess is that you have a problem with an incompatibility between LabVIEW and the NI drivers that are installed. Did all the NI software come from the Starter Kit DVD? Did you already have NI software installed? If you could confirm as much as you can with the versions, that will help us figure it out.

Another item to check is the dip switches on the sbRIO. Ensure that they are turned off, especially switch 1.
Apart from that we would need version numbers of LabVIEW and RIO to troubleshoot further.

Yeah, I already had the LabVIEW core and several modules installed. When I installed the software from the Starter Kit DVD, it skipped over the installation of the components that were already there. I certainly hope that's not the problem; having to uninstall and reinstall a plethora of LabVIEW software would...not be ideal.
I double checked all of the dip switches, and all of them are off ('up' relative to the board).
I'm currently using LabVIEW 10.0f2 (32-bit), and the starter kit's robot is based on an sbRIO-9631.

What version of RIO do you have? If you have RIO 3.6 and you are using LabVIEW 2010, you might have some issues. If you are using LabVIEW 2010 SP1, then you should download this patch.

Hello, I was wondering if you were able to get past that step yet. I have the exact same problem when run the NI robotics hardware setup wizard. The very same error message.

Hi e_olson,
Are you using LabVIEW 2010 SP1 and RIO 3.6? If so, please install the patch from my previous post and that should fix your errors.
I know the issue in this thread was solved by manually installing the software through MAX instead of through the wizard. Is that a possibility for you?
Thanks,

I am not using that version of Labview. It has mysteriously started to work though, so I'm not sure what has happened. I have manually added it to MAX since it didn't automatically show up though. That could be why it works now.

Hi,
I have this problem, and I have the software and the patch. I just cannot understand "installing the software through MAX". How can I find any tutorial about install software through MAX?
Thanks

MAX refers to the "Measurement and Automation Explorer" that is installed with NI products. That software will allow you to look at available NI targets in your computer and on your local network as well as install software to them. The Robotics Hardware Setup Wizard though provides a couple of additional tests and configuration options specific to the starter kit.
If you can give me the following information I will be better able to help investigate this issue:
1) The number and text of the error you are seeing
2) The version numbers of the software you are using, in particular the LabVIEW version and the NI-RIO version. You mentioned the patch so I assume that you have LabVIEW 2010 SP1 and RIO 3.6.
3) How you are connecting to the robot i.e via a router(DHCP or Static IP), directly via ethernet etc.
4) What software(if any) is installed on the target. You can find this in the Measurement and Automation Explorer. Find your target under remote systems, expand it, then expand software (if no software is installed then this will not be expandable)
