Did you mean:

disappearing scrollbars

OK, I have a mystery.  Any good LabVIEW detectives out there (Smiley Happy) want to help me?

I have a VI which is basically a demo program showing how to use a bunch of VIs we will be distributing.

I was working on it and LabVIEW suddenly hung and I had to have Windows close it down.

When I opened LabVIEW again it let me recover the two VIs I'd been working on.  One was this demo program.  I had LabVIEW save the recovered version and only then noticed that the scrollbars had disappeared from my front panel!

Where did they go?  More importantly, how do I get them back??

Thank you.

B.

Hi B.,

"how do I get them back??"

Well, check out the latest version from your SVN repository. Or grab that backup from last week...

Did you check the window settings in the options of that VI?

Best regards,
GerdW

I guess the first thing to check is in the vi properties, under Window Appearance:Customize.

Show vertical/horizontal scrollbars should be selected.

GerdW -- a backup doesn't exist yet; I just created this one today!  Yes, I could start from scratch and redo the work; it wasn't a ton of work obviously, since it is so new, but I'd really like to know what is going on here!

Ian,

Thank you.  I found the properties you referred to.  They were checked.  I did experiment with unchecking them, saying OK, then going back in and rechecking them....it didn't help.

OK, I can work again now -- what I did so far was copy the entire block diagram to a new VI and it looks OK.

But why should the scrollbars just ... disappear?

Thanks all!

See the thread, http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/LabVIEW-crashing-often/m-p/1509932/highlight/false, for more discussion of this problem.

Hi BPerlman,

I've searched in our database. There are some CARs and previous issues regarding the scroll bar, but they are not quite the same as what you've described here.  It looks like some scroll bar corruption issues have been fixed in LV 8.6. ( http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/7731 ).

I have not come across this issue with LabVIEW 2009 or higher.

I would recommend that you continue to use this workaround in the future.

Just my 2 cents.
