Changes to type definition not reflected in program using this control.

Solved!
Go to solution

Good Morning,

I'm having an problem with a type definition that once I make changes by adding another item to the enum the changes do not show up in the program and the control in the program is grayed.  I had this problem yesterday but just decided to delete the type definition file and rebuild a new one.  But today when I made a change the enum in the program looks like it is disabled.  I have attached the program and the control file.  I sure would like to know why I'm having this problem since it seem to happen every time I make a change to the control.  I'm running LabVIEW 2010 on a Dell dimension 2400 using Windows XP with service pack 3 5.1.2600.  I'm wondering if LabVIEW 2010 has any issues running on XP which may cause this type of problem.

Hi Gary,

no problem here, can change the typedef and changes are reflected in the vi...

Best regards,

Have you tried updating the control in your VI?

I tried your program in 2010sp1 and 2011 and I don't see any problem. Once you edit the type definition and add items to the enum, the instances will turn grey until you either "apply changes" or "save" the typedef. After that, all instances of the typedef are updated with the new items.

Thank you for your information.  When I went to the type definition after the edit the "applied changes" was grayed out and I was told earlier that it meant the changes were already done but I stilled had my control grayed as if disabled.  I closed every thing and reopened the control and then the "applied changes" was active and selecting it did make the changes.  I'm now believing that I'm having some kind of OS or system issues and will have to take this up with our IT person.

Thanks again for the help and if I find out what is causing the type definition to act in the manner I have been experiencing I'll make sure it get posted.

Best Regards to all for your quick response.

Good luck!

On a side note, you have a lot of unecessary code. 😉
