deploying MAX configurations

Solved!
Go to solution

What level of integration does SystemLink have now, and planned to have, for deploying MAX configurations on remote targets?

Our desired use of SystemLink is to configure servers (blades with MXIs and also PXIs (and SCXI)), not cRIOs.

We currently struggle with the fact that importing MAX configs does not fully reproduce a hardware environment.  Depending on the chassis and modules, it is common that manual MAX configuration is still required to get a system commissioned.  This causes a lot of errors and lost time troubleshooting.

Thanks,

Nate

SystemLink doesn't currently support natively deploying MAX configuration, however you can configure some Devices and Interface settings like device aliases.

As a stop gap you can export your hardware configuration from MAX and then package it up with your application and then use the NI System Configuration API from within your application to programmatically import it at runtime when needed.  Obviously not ideal, but may suffice in some cases.

Over time we will add more and more hardware configuration to SystemLink.  Feel free to reply with a prioritized list of what is important for replicating your systems, however I'm not sure if we will ever support SCXI.

In the future, we will add the ability to create and deploy "snapshots" from SystemLink.  This will enable customers to save off the configuration state of the feeds, installed software and hardware configuration of a system and then mass deploy that state to other systems or diff and compare as needed.  The catch being the only hardware configuration we will be able to capture will be the ones configurable by SystemLink.
