LabVIEW App of the Month: A Solar-Powered Lantern for Developing Countries

Using the NI Circuit Design Suite, Pan's Innovative Science and Technology (PiSAT),  a company dedicated to developing energy-efficient lighting  technologies, created a solar-powered rechargeable lantern - the  K-Light.

The  K-Light is waterproof, easily portable, safe to operate, and can be  used as a long-term lighting solution (up to 20 hours of light per  charge). These characteristics have made the K-Light a useful tool  toward the goal of the Koinonia Foundation of eradicating poverty in developing the world through modernizing  education, implementing renewable and clean energy sources including  solar projects, and creating strong communities that promote a safe and  healthy standard of living.
