cRIO chassis NI-4949 would not connect to the Industrial controller NI-IC-3173

Hello Gentlemen,

I have connected an industrial controller IC-3173 to a PC via TCP/IP, IPV4 Static Address using its primary ethernet adapter (eth0).

Now I am trying to connect a cRIO chassis NI-9149 also via TCP/IP, static address, to the controller, using the controller's ethernet adapter eth1 and the chassis ethernet port. The yellow LED's at both ends of the connections are solid and the green ACT/LNK LED is blinking, good signs.

Using NI-MAX I cannot make the chassis show up under the controller's (3173) network devices. When I go "Add Network Device" I get the error message bellow:

I tried using a static address for eth1 (169.254.124.1) and a static address for the chassis's adapter (169.254.124.17).

I have been able to use the chassis previously as a Remote System when I connected it directly to the PC.

Has somebody accomplished a working connection similar to what I am trying to do? Please let me know.
