Abstract: In many industries, the life cycle of an entire test system can be 10 to 20 years while the life cycle of the individual test hardware pieces that it's composed of may be as little as five years. Rather than address the cost of hardware obsolescence when it occurs, clever test engineers plan for change by using hardware abstraction layers (HALs). At this session, examine two examples of hardware abstraction, cover some common pitfalls for new users, and learn how you can integrate HALs into a larger test management platform such as NI TestStand.
