Dear colleagues,

Please advice me about noise immunity of copper MXI link.

i.e. hangs up or other problems with it

In other words, I'd like to compare noise immutity of copper MXI with for example Ethernet cable

Hi Current 93,

Both the MXI-4 and MXI-Express comply to the Immunity Standards for Measurement, Process Control and Laboratory Equipment- EN 61326.  This information, along with other EMC compliances can be found under the section heading 'Electromagnetic Compatibility' in the MXI-4 and MXI-Express User Manuals.  Secondly, both protocols have error correction to ensure that data is successfully received even in a noisy and harsh environment.  If you are concerned about data loss over a copper line, have you considered using a fiber optic cable?

Comparing MXI to Ethernet, both cables have error checking and are pretty tolerant to noisy environments.  Are you experiencing any problems with data loss on your MXI lines?

Thanks!

While no problems with my MXI... Simply I've only planned what to buy from NI (fiber or copper MXI)

Please advice me I've heard about that MXI copper link very unstable and can't to work in 24/7 mode because often occurs communication's errors.  Am I right or not?

Although I understand of course fiber optic link is best solution for 24/7 mode but it has enough high cost.

Hi Current 93,

Running the MXI controller for extended periods of time does not have an adverse affects on the noise immunity of the cable nor the controllers itself.  We generally don't see problems with noise disrupting communication because the cable itself is shielded and the MXI protocol has error correcting.  Should you happen to find that noise is a problem, you can shield the cable with either tin foil, a braided mesh material or a ferrite clamp

Thanks!
