If one of the fans fails, this will not trigger the power supply to shut down automatically. The fan will not affect performance of the chassis in any way... other than the possibility of overheating. There are a few chassis (such as PXI-104x chassis) have LED indicators that will change depending on the operation of the fans, but the 1010 is not one of them.
