PXI-4130 - no output on Ch1, fully functioning Ch. 0

Hello,

My PXI-4130 just came back from calibration and now my Channel 1 does not provide any output.

The PXI-4130 is running inside of a PXIe-8108 embedded controller and when I use the NI soft panel to control this card, Channel 0 works normally, but Channel 1 only puts out about -131 mV, regardless of the input setting.  All of the indicator LEDs on the front of the PXI-4130 are green and it passes the self test, so this is a mystery.  Further, I swapped in a spare PXI-4130 and that works fine, so it's not my controller that's screwing up.  I also placed the offending PXI-4130 into a spare controller and it did not work there either, so all signs point to the card not operating correctly.

There doesn't seem to be any sign of physical damage to the PXI-4130 card, so is it possible that the calibration house somehow disabled the Channel 1 output?  This seems really unlikely to me.  Of course, the data that they sent with the card said that it was working flawlessly when it arrived and left their custody, so the finger will be pointed at the shipping company.

Does anyone have any advice?

Hi KipF,

The fact that the output is constant even when you don't have the output enabled on the soft front panel is usually a sign of a damaged card.  It looks to me as though you have already gone through most of the steps that I would have suggested.  My last thought is have you tried doing the software reset in NI MAX to see if it can do so without any errors whether it affects the performance?  Have you tried all combinations of settings for the soft front panel?  If it successfully resets and you are seeing the same issue with all settings I would call our support number (866-275-6964) and ask to be transferred to our RMA department.  Explain the steps you have tried to resolve this issue and mention that you recently had a calibration done so that they can see if there were any anomalies in their tests.

Thanks for the response Nick.

Is there a way to reset the device besides hitting the Reset Device button in NI MAX?  I did that and I get a popup saying that the device was successfully reset, but Ch. 1 still does not provide any output.  I did try changing the voltage ranges, the sense location, and changing from voltage to current output, but nothing seems to work with that channel.

I have the calibration data and all of the measured values look good.  I don't know if this card has a special operating mode during calibration, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the calibration technician just forgot to reset something before he shipped the card back to me.  I also plan to call the calibration lab to see if the have any input.

Thanks.

Hi KipF,

That is the correct way to reset the board.  Please reach out to calibration to see if they have any further information.  If not, I would suggest that you call the NI Support number (1-866-ASK-MYNI) or go to our support page and start a service request.  The Applications Engineer you work with can do some final troubleshooting and file a RMA if need be.
