Sequence Editor won't start

After downloading and installing TS 4.1.1 (4.1.1.55), Sequence Editor won't start . The attached message is displayed.

This was a clean install of LV 8.6.1 followed by TS 4.1.1 so TS Version Selector only shows 4.1.1. Repeatedly activating the only

available option doesn't help.

It looks like SeqEdit.exe (4.1.1.55) doesn't find the matching TS Engine, but why?

UI (Full-Featured LV, TestExec.exe) works fine.

Any ideas what could be wrong?

Thanks

My first thought that TestStand might not be fully activated.  To check, open NI License Manager (In Windows XP: Start»All Programs»National Instruments»NI License Manager), then expand the + signs for TestStand 4.1.1 until you can't expand them anymore.  If TS is fully activated, the squares for TS will be solid green.  If it is not fully activated, it will likely be half-yellow half-white.  If it is not fully activated, right-click and select Activate...  The Activation Wizard will appear.  Follow its instructions to fully activate TS.

If TS was already fully activated, I have a few questions: Have you ever had any other versions of TestStand installed on this computer? When you said that you downloaded TestStand, from where did you download it? Have you been able to open LabVIEW 8.6.1 successfully?

Running the version selector from the start menu is the usual soluton to that message. What are the engine and UI versions in the about boxes of your UIs?

- Activation doesn't make a difference
- TS 4.1 was installed and removed including all other NI software
- ftp://ftp.ni.com/evaluation/teststand/pc/TestStand411.exe
- LV 8.6.1 works okay

Do you have access to any additional info related to the warning message? For example, which condition(s) will generate this warning? If TS Version Selector actually activates the selected TS version how do you read the part of the message that says “You might be trying to run a sequence editor which is incompatible with the currently registered engine”. Any additional tools for verifying which TS engine is registered?

- As mentioned, Version Selector doesn't help.

- Both are the same version, 4.1.1.55.

Thanks

Did you do a custom install of teststand or did you use the defaults in the installer? Have you tried repairing the installation or reinstalling? Did you reboot after uninstalling 4.1 before installing 4.1.1 and after installing 4.1.1?

You are running seqedit.exe from the TestStand 4.1.1\bin\seqedit.exe directory correct? One thing you might try is, before running seqedit.exe, try deleting or renaming the configuration files so that they are recreated with the defaults. The cfg directory is located under Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\National Instruments\TestStand 4.1.1 on XP and ProgramData\National Instruments\TestStand 4.1.1 on Vista. You need to save\keep the toolmenu.ini file or you will lose your toolmenu items, but everything else in that directory will get recreated with the default settings if you delete or rename them (you might want to make a backup copy of the files just incase). After deleting or renaming these files, try starting the sequence editor. Hopefully it will work now.

Also there are some additional configuration files under <User Directory>\AppData\Local\National Instruments\TestStand 4.1.1 that you might want to try renaming/deleting as well.

Configuration files are not removed when uninstalling. That is why uninstalling and reinstalling might not help if the problem is with these files.

- SeqEdit.exe is running from C:\Program Files\National Instruments\TestStand 4.1.1\Bin

- Deleting/recreating config files doesn't help; SeqEdit.exe still won't start.

Thanks

Hi,

I was just wondering if you're an administrator level or a user level on the PC you're trying to run it on?

There may be some registry setting on that PC that's preventing the TS engine from starting.

Have you tried running one of the OI's instead of the sequence editor?

Could you please let us know what the OS is (inc patches) you're running.

Thanks

Sacha
