Welcome to the LabVIEW Robotics Environment Simulator.

We now released the robotics environment simulator in LabVIEW Robotics 2011.

Please feel free to ask questions and provide feedback here.

Hi Superjing,

I actually posted on the other document but this looks more suitable!

It looks fantastic and good to see it backed up by the ODE engine suggesting some good simulation models.

One thing that I have been critical about of other simulators is their complexity.  When you look at cogmation or microsofts offering they are very rich but complex.  Is it easy to build models for this simulator?  For the project I had I chose stage as it was so easy to build an environment and robot for quick & dirty testing!  From the example it appears that this will be a similar structure which looks very promising.

We are working on some features which will be included in LVR 2011  to enable user to build an environment and robots.  After you looking at the links I sent to you, please let me know if you have more questions.

Hi superjing... I'm trying to test the simulator but I can't find the example ... I downloaded the simulator... but the example is not in my example finder or anywhere... can you help me? Thank you

The simulator is now a released feature in LabVIEW Robotics 2011. If you install LabVIEW Robotics 2011, you will find multiple examples under \examples\robotics\Simulator\. And we also have a plan to release more on-line examples in the community

I have a question.. is really especific... I already have the robotic simulator, is great.. but I would like to know if there is a way to simulate an IMU and encoders? I want to simulate dead reckoning and several SLAM algorithms... I'll be happy if you can give any hint.. Thank you

As for IMU, if you have LV Robotics 2011 installed, you could refer to the iRobot example under \examples\robotics\simulator. And we also released an example about dead reckoning here.

We do not have simulated encoder yet, but you can get the position of the robot throught LV Refnum of this simulated robot.

I am trying to create a custom environment and custom robot using the Offline Configure VI's. I have figured out how to create the environment but I can not figure out how to create the robot. Please send me any documentation or help if you have it.

Thank you!

In LabVIEW Robotics 2011, you can create a new robotics project and select Robotics Environment Simulator. You will be leaded to the simulaton project wizard. You could customize some predefined robots with some sensors easily. Or as you mentioned, you can also play with the Offline Configure VIs to create a new simulation instance. But in this release, it is difficult to create a new robot by users. Lisa7603, are you trying to create a totally new simulated robot?

I am tring to create a surface model of our Autonomous Surface Vehicle (ASV). The ASV has 2 thrusters so I was planning on designing it in the simulation environment with servos. I looked at the Starter Kit 2.0 and it is the closest to the ASV out of the 4 options. Also we use a SICK LiDAR LMS, which is not supported in the environment. I have figured out some work arounds, but it would be better if I can design the simulation to be as close as possible to the real vehicle.

Does anyone know how to change the colors of the spherical objects? I need to make some red and some yellow.

Thanks!
