I have a couple of part footprints I have done with custom pad shapes. Both through-hole and surface mount have issues. With the surface mount component, I flood the top layer with copper (ground) and it shorts to the inside end of all the pins. I have to put a keep out area around the pad to keep it away. The DRC complains that they are sorted too, so I don't understand why the copper area function willing shorts to the pads. The through-hole part is a DC input jack that has rectangular pins (holes are rectangle slots). The pads are rectangular in shape. The autorouter will run routes right across the pads. The DRC complains about this as well. I don't understand why the autorouter would do anything that actually shorts two nets together.

Hi,
Can you post your file I will investigate this issue? You can keep your design confidential by remove everything on your design except for the section showing the problem.

Hi,
The only thing I can think of is that the properties of the copper area are not set correctly:
click on your copper area, then right click on it for properties
In the copper area tab, you should have 'enable voiding' marked.

Voiding is enabled. It works fine with all the other parts. I think it has to do with the pad shape. The recommended layout pattern for this part has rectangular pins with the inside end being rounded. So it's a custom pad shape. Both trouble parts have custom pad shapes. I think there may be a connection.

Here's one of the parts showing the problem.

I can't open it, im still using version 10.0

I see the problem but I am not able to see how you made the custom pad so I am not sure what is causing this problem. I created my own custom pad hoping to replicate this problem but my pad worked, have a look at the attached file.
Is there any way you can post your database file, I like see use your custom and see if I can replicate this issue. Select Options>>Global Preferences>>Paths to find out where you ‘User database’ file is located on your computer.

Here's just the part and the pad in a corporate database.

Hi,
You made the custom pad by placing a circuit and a rectangle and then you grouped the two objects together and this is causing the problem. I went to the Custom Pad Edit Model and used the Ungrouped function under the 'Edit' menu and then resaved the pad. In the Footprint Edit Mode, I replaced your custom pad with the modified pad and this fixed the problem. Attached is my corporate database with the modified pad and footprint.
I will let R&D know about this behavior.

Then can you tell me what is wrong with this footprint for a DC Jack? The autorouter will route traces right across the pads like they are not there.
