Does NI have a recommendation for an efficient Product Data Management system that is compatible with multisim and ultiboard files?

Can you provide us some details about what you are trying to accomplish.

We need to vault our schematic and layout files for archival purposes, and for maintaining issue control.

and also for data sharring, fab and assembly data.

I'm not sure about a third party tool but you can accomplish this using Projects in Multisim. Go to File >> Project and Packing >> New Project. You can add all the required files related to a single project and then save everything together. You can also setup version control and keep track of all the changes. This is a really easy way to archive your files as it saves everything in a compressed zip folder with a special extension understood by Multisim.
