1G Ohm multimeter reading with only 1k ohm resistence

Solved!
Go to solution

I am a student just starting to use Mulitisim student edition 12.0 for very basic circuits.  My PC opetating system is windows XP.

First assignment went perfectly with a variety of series circuits using basic components - DC voltage source, resistors, ground, multimeter.

Started on my second set of assignments with parallel circuits yesterday.  Same very basic components.

Two problems -  first was a "no nodes" in circuit error when trying to run the simulation.  Surprising because as far as I know my steps to construction the circuit were the same as the previous assignment (just resistors in parallel rather than series).  This error went away after I relocated the voltage source.

Next problem, which continues,  - simulation results on multimeter show correct voltage 12V but 1G ohm and Amperage  " r"  out of the range.  I have checked the instrument setting and they seem ok.  No open point in the circuit detected or that I can see.

The only other piece of information I can think of that might help troubleshooting this is that my PC does show 100% CPU (2G, 2.1GHz) use quite often when running multisim.

Can you post your circuit file?

Thanks for replying, Tom. You get credit for solving this one.

When I went back to my circuit and looked at it after a couple days I spotted the problems.

First, was a branch with no resistance that I believe caused the "no nodes".  I put it back in green wire on

the attached circuit.  Second, was not removing the power supply when checking the resistance.

Kind of embarrasing errors even for a beginner.

Anyway, you prompted me to take go back to the file and discover the problem which I appreciate.

In the future I will set the problem aside for a while if I have that option and then,

make sure to attach the circuit if I post it looking for help.
