Description
By definition, electric (or signal) filters are circuit elements that attenuate undesired signal frequencies and transmit (or amplify) a desired band of frequencies. The filter design process is an optimization problem where the designer is trying to meet certain specifications by varying different design parameters either being physical or electrical. The most important design specifications are about the pass/stop bands levels and transitions, as well as the phase and the delay properties of the filter. Digital filters are typically described by an impulse response where the output of a linear time invariant system is determined by convolving its input signal with its impulse response. The coefficients of this impulse response determine the filter's characteristics. The Finite Impulse Reponse (FIR) filter design is provided so that you can save the time and effort.
