device property code invalid

I have a USB-6009 device. When i plug it into my computer (running windows Vista 32 bit) it says that it has found the drivers but cannot install them because 'Device property code invalid'.

 

Can anyone help me with this problem?

Hi,

 

Have you installed the latest DAQmx driver set? If not please go to http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/1087/lang/en. Please install the driver before plugging in the USB device.

installing the latest version of NI_DAQmx worked. Thank you.

 

However, when i try to log data it says i need to activate this software with a 20 digit activation code. A colleague believed that the NI-DAQmx software is free to use so why do i need to activate it? How do i get the code
