cRIO 9215 with DAQmx in LabView 2017

Hi all,

I start with my students in LabView and get now problems with an older cRIO 9215. We can't get the board working with LabView Student version 2017 and DAQmx 18.5.

Do we need some more drivers?

Hi,

First of all, I would like to clarify which controller are you using? Are you working it with a CompactRIO platform or a CompactDAQ platform?

If you are working with cRIO controllers, please note that NI-DAQmx is only compatible with the cRIO-904x and cRIO-905x families of controllers. To make it works, you will need to also install LabVIEW Real-Time Module and/or LabVIEW FPGA Module and NI-RIO driver.  Kindly refer to this KB (What Software Is Required to Use DAQmx with My 904x cRIO). Also, you can refer to Using CompactRIO with the NI-DAQmx API for a detailed tutorial.

Hi,

thank you very much for reply. I'm not experienced enough to answer correctly your question. I just installed LabView 2017 (student version) from CD. After that I also installed NI-DAQmx. Normally we make experiments with USB-6008 or USB-6009. But for one experiment we have the cRIO USB_9215. I will now also install LabVIEW Real-Time Module and LabVIEW FPGA Module and NI-RIO driver.

Regards

Rudi

Hi,

Thank you so much for the prompt reply. Sorry, I provided wrong information because I thought you are using this NI-9215 module.  You are actually using NI USB-9215. Thank you for clarifying on this.

The USB-9215 cannot be used with NI-DAQmx driver. This device is only compatible with the driver,  NI-DAQmx Base 2.2 and earlier, as referenced in the  USB-9215 Series User Guide and Specifications (page 8). However, NI does not provide NI-DAQmx Base 2.2 driver download anymore. Also, NI-DAQmx Base 2.2 is only compatible with LabVIEW versions from 7.0 to 8.2.

For your information, the USB-9215 consists of two components: the actual C Series module 9215 and a USB 9161 carrier. There is another product, USB-9215A  which also consist of two components: the same NI C Series 9215 module, but a different USB carrier - USB-9162. It is possible to purchase the USB-9162 carrier, which will enable you to upgrade your USB-9215 to the USB-9215A. You will be able to use it with the NI-DAQmx driver if you upgrade the USB carrier.
