Unforunately there is no 24V power available off of the backplane. Splicing power is actually not that bad. The spare connector comes with a screw down hood. Simply solder the incoming and spliced power wires to the connector and screw the hood in place. You'll have to supply your own 24V supply (but the chassis can take it), but the result will be fairly clean.
