Wiring a 4 wire device to a NI 9208 Analog Input Card

Hello Team,

I am looking for as little help/guidance in wiring a powered 4-20mA instrument to a NI9208 analog input card.

My first thought is to supply the instrument with 24VDC and wire the device to the NI9208 as a loop powered device.

I have attached a PDF of the instrument.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I may just be "big braining" this and thinking too hard.

Hi Stan,

I looked in to different wiring options and there are 2 that you can use:

  1. If you are powering the DC voltage transducer externally then you have to wire the positive lead to an analog input channel and the negative to the COM channel
  2. If you want to power the DC voltage transducer with the NI-9208 module, then page 10 of the specification manual provides details of how that can be done. The link for the manual is below: http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/375170a.pdf. As indicated on page 10 of the manual, the power supply can be connected to Vsup and COM and the positive lead of the output of the transducer will be connected to another Vsup channel and the negative to AI0.

I hope this helps.
